Until recently, a night out with the girls might include dinner at a favorite restaurant, having a few drinks and listening to a band play at a local club or even seeing a show at a local theater.

But now, with the opening of Talk, Paper, Scissors, women have another option.

Located on South Willow Street in Manchester, Talk, Paper, Scissors is a studio offering the use of paper craft tools, such as cutting mats, templates, rubber stamps and more.

Those ages 10 and older are welcome to use the studio for an $8 fee, or may rent out the smaller party room for special events. The studio also offers special paper craft classes, and there is an attached paper craft shop.

Craft classes include:

• Bright Idea! – decorative lampshades

• Pretty Packages – gift wrapping for all occasions

• Card Frenzy – cards for all occasions

• Festive Table – paper decor for your holiday table

• Write On – calligraphy for beginners

“It’s an alternative to going out to eat and going out to bars,” said co-owner Karen Boyd. “It’s a new social venue.”

Boyd and co-owner Christine Wheeler, both of Manchester, opened the studio in September. Both previously worked in marketing at Schleuniger in Manchester – Boyd for five years and Wheeler for 12.

“We’re very complementary,” Boyd said of herself and Wheeler. “Christine is very business-minded, and I’m creative.”

Boyd said she was encouraged to be creative by her mother ever since she was a child.

“I’m pursuing my passion,” said Boyd, who thought up the idea of a paper craft studio. “It’s been a dream of mine to have my own business and do something creative.”

The studio is something Manchester needed, Boyd said, and there already has been a lot of excitement.

“This is specifically for the noncreative individual who just likes the outcome,” Wheeler said. “It’s a different way for women to spend their time.”

The studio is located in the Willow Tree Plaza at 575 S. Willow St. Hours are Wednesday through Friday, noon to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
