Developing your 'Signature Style'

By Victoria DeProfio-Kondry

When it comes to our wardrobe and presenting ourselves, we are known to hit the mall, pull out the debit card and make impulse purchases, giving very little thought to the what and why of it.

This year, let your look be “intentional.”

Consider those who have influenced us and made fashion history. Their wardrobes didn’t just happen; they were planned to project an image.

Let’s talk about your hair
Does it need updating? Communicate to your stylist that you are “re-presenting” yourself and would like some input. A reputable stylist invests in his or her skills and is up to date on styles and trends. He or she could be a valuable resource and point you in the right direction.

If you find yourself returning to a default hair style, you have found your range of comfort. That’s not a bad thing, that’s a signature thing. Ask your stylist to work within those parameters, being sure to redistribute the weight of your hair, therefore modifying it.

For example, Princess Dianna stayed in a short to medium style, but was always “in the now.”

Identify your Signature Style
Grab a fashion magazine. Which style do you lean toward?

• Romantic: Texture, lace and gathered fabric.

• Traditional: Clean lines in black, white and earth tones.

• Sporty : Crisp, cotton and comfortable.

• Fashion Forward: Funky patterns and trends.

You may have a second look you’re drawn to. That’s good, too. It’s important that you identify your preferences and build upon them.
Don’t hesitate to replicate. Find the look you like and make it your own.

Accessorize
Life is short! Buy the:

1. Boots

2. Bling

3. Bag

4. Bra

and

5. Blonde, Burnish or Block color your hair.

Try color changes in stages. You can go bolder as you get more confident.

Be Decisive
Clothing is a form of communication. Determine what it is you want to say. Each choice you make results in a purchase, so whether it’s a pair of sunglasses, a cut and color, jewelry or a great pair of shoes, the outcome is a declaration of what lies beneath the surface.

Have fun as you intentionally re-package and re-present yourself to the world.
