For Susan Hill-Blouin of Nashua, it’s always been about nurturing. Whether as a caregiver in nursing homes or through her floral creations at Flowers on the Hill, she truly loves what she does.

Susan Hill-Blouin worked at several Nashua-area florists before opening her own shop, Flowers on the Hill, in Hudson.

For many years, she held down both positions. Twenty-eight years ago, Hill-Blouin had to make the decision whether to go into nursing or follow the other side of her heart, which had a strong yearning for the floral business.

She went on to combine both aspirations, although her shop has most certainly gained the most prominent position over the 20 years she has owned it.

Hill-Blouin worked for a friend’s family’s floral business in Nashua and went on to work at several florists in Greater Nashua prior to opening her own shop, located at the Hudson Village Shops on Route 102. The relationships she built through those years paid off greatly, and some of the retired florists have since come to Flowers on the Hill to work.

“It’s wonderful to have those that I once worked for come and work in my shop now,” she said.

Flowers on the Hill has been a true collaboration of friends and family, with many of Susan’s family, including her husband, Bob, and her sisters and brothers lending a hand. Until recently, her dad, Archie Hill, was a key player in the business as well.

Hill-Blouin is a founding member of the N.H. State Florists Association and has received many honors for her work. Flowers on the Hill is ranked in Teleflora’s top 2,000 of more than 40,000 florists.

The shop specializes in fresh-cut flowers, custom silk plants, fruit and gift baskets and gorgeous arrangements. Hill-Blouin loves to work with lilies and is quick to recommend plant gifts for recipients that her customers just don’t know all that well.
