Women share 'Outdoor Adventures'By Pam Ruth “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” could very well be the theme song for Women’s Outdoor Adventures, a venture created to spread a passion for the great outdoors with women – just women.
Owner Jayne King of Hampstead wants to turn us all onto our world, and now she has the opportunity to do just that. Through Hooksett-based Women’s Outdoor Adventures, King can share her extensive experience as an outdoor enthusiast with other women looking to participate in – but not necessarily plan – an adventure. “It’s a whole different kind of atmosphere between women – more talking and sharing,” she said. “Women aren’t worrying about their appearance and if they look good to the man behind them; they can just enjoy being themselves.” What began as a classroom assignment while pursuing a business degree has blossomed into a side venture for this photographer. She opened the business last October. King’s motivation to create the women-only adventure business came from the class’s reaction to her proposal. ”It was very positive,” she said. “Even the guys supported the idea.” For King, the best part is when women who have never been on an outdoor excursion walk away from the experience with a renewed sense of wonder for Mother Nature. Women’s Outdoor Adventures is open year-round, and King plans weekend trips to hundreds of locations throughout New England. To develop an excursion, King takes into consideration what the women would like to see and experience, how much time can be shared together and seasonal accommodations. Through these planned adventures, wedding parties, sororities, churches and co-workers all can share a common connection with the outdoors and themselves. King said her goal is to provide the process and backdrop for a meaningful life experience and to do so in a structured frame of time. She also encourages women to get their children outdoors, and the most effective way is to show them by example. “It kills me when I see kids sitting inside in front of a television screen,” she said. “Entice them to get outside when they’re young. Make it fun!” For more information, call 339-2646 or visit www.womensoutdooradventures.com.
